Latest figures from the Sciensano national health institute show that Covid-19 patients in Belgian hospitals have fallen below 1,000 for the first time since 19 June.
Also, the number of patients in intensive care has decreased by 23%, with 68 patients staying in intensive care.
A total of 1,947 infections were reported per day between 16 and 22 August, an increase of 14% over the previous period. Currently, there have been 221 confirmed cases per 100,000 residents over a 14-day period.
However, fewer tests were conducted in the previous period due to a public holiday. An average of 8,296 tests were taken daily between 16 and 22 August, an increase of 5% over the previous week.
A quarter of the tests came back positive, with a positivity ratio of 24,8%, a decrease of 0.6%.
A 5% decrease in reproduction has also been reported, and it currently stands at 0.86. When it falls below 1, it indicates that the pandemic has slowed down.
