As electricity and gas prices reach record highs, Alexander De Croo will convene the Consultative Committee to discuss the ongoing energy crisis.
According to the Belga News Agency, De Croo will hold the meeting on Wednesday to discuss rising energy prices. Following a question from Vooruit chair Conner Rousseau, who asked the government to convene ministers and discuss long-term solutions, the gathering was announced.
Gas prices have also been breaking record after record these days, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight to this trend.
It is important to find long-term solutions, such as tax reform, to ensure that people have more net income at the end of the month, according to Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem.
In the meantime, if no agreement is reached on a European level to cap gas prices, the green party Groen argued Belgium should look for a way to introduce one.
